In my work, my world of ideas often revolves around existential questions and the vulnerabilities and weaknesses of humans.

About me

It is a challenge to try and translate these emotions or experiences to form and surface.

I often begin with clay as a base material but like to add cloth or other materials to contrast the surface and structure of the clay. I hand build my sculptures in soft organic forms and take great pleasure in this process.

Said about Katarina:
“Katarina Sundkvist Zohari has created ceramic work which focuses on humans’ vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Her amorphous formations contain an expression that slides between fragile corporality and weakness and dulled threats as form and content melt into a visual production whose theme is life and death. In her work with surface and tactile expression she adds material which closely connects to humans and humans’ conditions and in the long run gives body and soul to a particular existential perspective.”

“For her confident handling of form and the sensitivity which she brings to the material, as well as her way to treat the surface and the prudent use of glaze which enhances the clay’s character.”

“Katarina Sundkvist Zohari’s art challenges the eye and the emotions through its surprising and individual way of placing high against low and delicious against disgusting, and in this way make the viewer conscious of the mechanisms behind the choice of interpretation.”
