I like to combine - memory, cultural traditions, techniques…
Often I try to find the absurd core in the meeting of dreams and reality.

Background

I moved from Russia to Sweden in 2000 and try to adapt my cultural skills and find common boundries between Swedish and Russian traditions in art. It is vital for me to exist in a democratic artistic life with a multi-cultural influence.

I received 5 years artistic training at MSPU, institute for art in Moscow, and prior to that I attended art school between ages 9 and 17. Because I studied art throughout my entire childhood I have the a wide range of techniques available to me with which to visualise my ideas - from watercolour and oil to computer art and video installations.

I have had a studio at Eklundshof since 2003, and there I work in a enormously creative environment together with the other members of the artist’s group haka - Anna-Karin Brus, Katarina Sundkvist Zohari, Helena Laukkanen and Agneta Forslund. We have had several exhibitions both in Sweden and in my motherland, Russia, at Moscow’s Museum for Modern Art. I think it is important to introduce my artist colleagues to the Russian art scene and tradition, and at the same time in Moscow demonstrate the Swedish artists’ modern experiments and philosophies.

Like most artists I cannot work solely with private art so I also work with pedagogical organisations, visual media and art associations.

For the past three years I have taught art at Katarina upper school in Uppsala, and I think it is important not only to give the students practical knowledge but also acquaint them with the rich world of art found here in Uppland. I visit exhibitions at Uppsala’s galleries and museums together with my students and give them the opportunity to communicate with the artists they meet at these exhibitions. A year ago I was chosen as curator at Uppsala Konstnärsklubbs Galleri 1, and I currently work with a project where artists from Uppland invite students to their exhibitions and talk about their work with the children. I also believe my duties as curator at Galleri 1 include renewing the club’s exhibition policy, and I would like to, for example, invite artists from the Östersjö area to Uppsala to show their work.

As of spring 2006 I work as a freelance illustrator and graphic artist for the news division at Swedish broadcasting. I make illustrations for Rapport, Aktuellt, ABC and other programs which SVT’s news division produces. I enjoy the quick tempo and the concentration required to make news illustrations. I like to meet new, creative people who can inspire my main concern PICTORIAL ART.
