I use photography’s illusion of reality to create a world where I can sift through my musings about life.

The Dutch 1600-century painter Jan Davidz de Heem is a master of the still life genre that triumphed in one of art history’s golden epoques The Heems beautiful flower still life, which on closer examination turns out crawling insects, marked the beginning of Anna-Karin Brus last theme, vanitas. The Heems way of working - his still life is a fiction, not depictions of actual flower arrangements - Anna-Karin Brus continued to apply and develop. It’s about relationships in history, ... the case of the realization that all is coming, and if each generation of rights and opportunities to rediscover, re-use and thus recreate the ancient knowledge of the fragility of life, its beauty and its inevitable impermanence.
Not only are they found on the same street – Galleri 1 has transformed into Ofvandahls (a café in Uppsala) in the interactive exhibition Återdahls.
This is not Ofvandahls as it is today but as it was fifteen years ago, when I and my friends frequented the place. Cafés are places for meeting and conversation, and with this exhibition I wanted to de-dramatize the visit to a gallery and make room for everyone who wanted to sit with a cup of coffee and talk, remember and philosophise. Several old regulars returned to lend authenticity and atmosphere to the exhibition. Superficially this was an easily recognizable setting, but closer examination of the hand-painted wallpaper revealed that it was not perfect, but fragmented like memories. The work embodied the room, sound, taste, the smells from a vanished era and the artist who became the waitress.
Thank you Ofvandahls, Uppsala Stadsteater, Studiefrämjandet, Fågelsången and Erica Antique!
