Syjunta centers on the social community which women of my childhood had when they sat and “bubbled” with their craft at sewing circles. The knitting and embroidery were not the focus so much as the meeting and talking over a cup of coffee. This installation reflects the sewing circles I followed my mother to; the crafts, coffee, cakes, etc. What’s missing are the people - here the coffee cups bubble with each other! They boil at various intervals and rates as they communicate with each other. A small sense of magic hangs over the work which grows surreal as the cups occasionally grow so overheated that they boil over.
